HAI is responding to Ministry of Health needs in the aftermath of Cyclone Idai. As a trusted partner of the Mozambique's National Health Service, HAI is not only participating in the immediate relief effort, but is committed to helping rebuild and strengthen the health system throughout the recovery and into the future.
On Thursday March 14th, Cyclone Idai hit Beira–home to Health Alliance International's Mozambique program for over 30 years. The cyclone and its aftermath has destroyed an estimated 80% of the city's infrastructure leaving hundreds of thousands in a state of emergency.
Cyclone Idai is already being called the worst weather-related disaster to hit the southern hemisphere.
Hospitals and health facilities across the region have sustained severe infrastructural and material damage. Nearly 1,000 Mozambicans have already lost their lives, and hundreds of thousands more are at risk of cholera and other waterborne illness, food shortages, lack of secure housing, and more. Our colleagues in the Mozambique National Health System have reached out to HAI for support, and we are asking you to join us by making a donation today.
